welcome
Welcome to the website of Lorraine McLoughlin and Peter Fitzgerald.
We have made Eliza Cottage our permanent home for nearly 20 years. Near Yankalilla in the beautiful Fleurieu Peninsula of South Australia, 85km south from Adelaide, we pursue a life involved in the arts of the local community, as well as our own creative work.

wordsPaul Jelfs has featured six more of my portraits of local artists in the Yankalilla Regional News. The latest people interviewed include: Barbara Pettigrew, Bill Page, Margie Russell, Robert Bean, Kerry Rochford and Leith Semmens. Coming out in January will be an interview with Judith Sweetman, which will be the fourteenth in the series. The response continues to be astonishing to the myself and the interviewees. Subjects have been drawn from the rich pool of local talent.
My family history, Glimpses into the family heritage of Kevin and Sylvia Penny, was published mid-2022. It is available for viewing and downloading. For publications in 2021 see: Thinking on paper, and Elaine Haxton: A colourful artist and life. Please end comments and orders via contact details on this site. |
imagesPeter is happy to have private visits to his studio by arrangement on 0438 151 432. He will also have his studio open during Festival Fleurieu. For details click here.
In July/August 2022 he exhibited during SALA at Coral Street Arts Centre, Victor Harbor with Karen Hammat, Barb Pettigrew and Bill Page. See details. The Amazing People painting trips to Arkaroola resumed in September 2022 after being postponed two years in a row because of the pandemic. Peter was glad to be back working en plein air in that inspiring landscape which had been replenished after good rains. |
seasonsIn 2022 rains were spread out over both winter and spring months, and pastures stayed green well into November. As 2022 ended, the grasses had turned golden as they do every year, the norm in this Mediterranean climate. The gardens and trees around the cottage have grown well, however, and moderate temperatures, making living pleasant most days.
In the coming autumn, Eliza Cottage will be a venue for a Festival Fleurieu event on Saturday April 2023. Titled Letters aloud… and saxophone music too, it will feature readings by actor Anna Steen of notable letters which offer often surprising glimpses into the lives of mostly famous people you already know about – or think you do. This will be complemented by musical interludes from Kym Mitchell’s saxophone. Click here for details and bookings. |
