My
writing
background includes:
• a BA in English Literature and a Graduate Diploma in Creative
Writing;
• teaching English for 14 years including as a Matriculation specialist;
• writing:
- self study books on literature;
- journal articles on education
and politics;
- policy, press releases
and speeches for a state government minister;
- submissions, reports and
government policy;
- marketing materials;
- business association and
local government newsletters;
- promotional materials
for two regional Leafy Sea Dragon Festivals as inaugural artistic director.
• inaugural board member of Wet
Ink, a South Australian magazine of new writing.
I
am available for freelance writing assignments and board work, as well
as public speaking on biography writing, Barbara Robertson’s art
and associated topics.
With
a passion for things literary I established a Books and Words Group
in the Yankalilla/Normanville district in March 2011 to foster regular
book events for locals.
My
strengths, based on the belief that one can make a difference at a local
level, are in:
• general and creative writing;
• networking in community and arts groups;
• developing community arts events and networks.
Since
the publication of the biography of Barbara Robertson I have given lectures
on Robertson and her art plus on life writing to a range of institutions
and groups including:
• The Barr Smith Library during SALA
Week
• Burnside,
Stirling and other libraries
• Regional festivals in South Australia and Victoria
• Regional South Australian galleries including in Mt Gambier
and Pt Pirie
• Probus and U3A groups in metropolitan and country South Australia
• Writers’ Groups
Future
talks scheduled include speaking to creative writing students at Flinders
University and to the South Australian Historical Association.
The
